Rescue diver training is an important step in being prepared to deal with diving problems. This course is designed to refine your ability to prevent problems and develop skills needed to respond to a diving emergency, and also put First Aid skills into use in a diving environment. In class and open water you’ll learn how to manage a diving accident if it occurs. From assisting another diver through to possible worst-case scenarios, you’ll practice applying the knowledge and skills that make the difference in the unlikely event problems do arise. Above all this course is designed to give you more confidence in your abilities as a competent diver. The Rescue Diver course is also a prerequisite for the Divemaster and Master Scuba Diver Courses.
Course Content
In the classroom you will cover the theory modules as outlined in the Rescue Diver manual including, Prevention, First Aid, Management, Equipment, Assists and Rescues. There is a multiple choice exam on completion and the knowledge reviews in the manual must be completed.
Dependent on weather conditions you may commence your practical sessions in the pool and then progress to an open water site or all the practical exercises may be done in open water. Practical sessions you will cover include Tired diver, Panicked diver (surface and U/W), Response from Boat/Shore, Distressed diver (U/W), Missing diver, Surfacing the Unconscious diver, Unconscious diver at the surface, Exit with an Unconscious diver, First Aid for Pressure Related Injuries, Response from Shore/Boat, and two Accident Scenarios
First-Aid Requirement
As part of the Rescue course you will be required to hold a current First-aid certificate completed within the last two years. If you don’t already have this then you will need to do the Emergency First Response Course. This is a one day classroom based course covering basic First Aid and CPR. Ideally this course wants to be done before the Rescue course for maximum benefit. It can be done afterwards but your Rescue certification will be put on hold until the EFR course has been completed.
Course prerequisites
You must hold Advanced or Junior Advanced diver certification. Minimum 12 years old. For those people who haven’t dived for a while some form of pool practice session or supervised open water dive may be required to evaluate your diving skills before starting your course. Please ask for details when you book your course.
Course Cost
The cost of the Rescue Diver course includes all instruction, course materials and certification. Also included is the Rescue Diver manual. This is required for home study, completion of knowledge reviews and course reference. Equipment hire and incidental costs are not included.

Equipment hire. Dependent on weather conditions and therefore dive sites, other costs may include boat/site/transport/accommodation fees etc.
